Connecticut Solar Incentives and Rebates
The nutmeg state has some of the best solar incentives and state-funded programs around.
Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC)
Leased and PPA systems qualify for the 30% federal investment tax credit, and that value comes to you as a lower lease payment or power rate, often a better deal than buying. There is no tax form to file and no tax liability needed on your end. To qualify, systems that begin construction after July 4, 2026 must be up and running by December 31, 2027, so timing matters.
If you buy your system with cash or a loan, your savings come from your electric bill and the state programs below. The homeowner version of the federal credit applied to systems installed through December 31, 2025.

Energy Community Bonus (Leases and PPAs)
Parts of Connecticut are federal energy communities: areas tied to fossil fuel jobs or closed coal plants. In 2026 that includes New Haven and Windham counties, plus parts of Fairfield and New London counties.
A leased or PPA system in an energy community qualifies for a 10-percentage-point bonus on the federal credit, which can mean an even lower price for you. It applies to leases and PPAs, not to systems you buy. Check your ZIP code.
Property Tax Exemption for Renewable Energy Systems
Solar panel systems are exempt from any additional property taxes on the added home value. This means that the increased property value due to the installation of a solar panel system will not lead to an increase in property taxes.
Sales and Use Tax Exemption for PV and Geothermal Systems
Homeowners in Connecticut are not required to pay the standard 6.35% state sales tax for their solar panel system, resulting in no extra cost for sales taxes.
Residential Renewable Energy Solutions (RRES): Netting
Connecticut’s RRES program is how new home solar systems are compensated in the state. With the Netting option, your solar powers your home first and you earn credits for the extra energy you send to the grid, which you can use at night and on cloudy days. Netting also lets you add a solar battery for backup power.
Residential Renewable Energy Solutions (RRES): Buy-All
As an alternative to Netting, the RRES Buy-All option sells all of the solar power you generate to your utility at a fixed rate for 20 years, while you keep buying your power as usual. Because you don’t use the solar power directly, Buy-All doesn’t work with a backup battery. We’ll show you which option pays more for your home.
