How Connecticut Electric Rates Compare
Connecticut electric rates are rising faster than a hot air balloon on a windy day. The state ranks number six in the nation for the highest electricity prices, shelling out over 30% more than the national average.
But fear not, Connecticut – solar power can help you break free from those outrageous rates and give you the power to take control of your energy costs.

Connecticut
Solar Incentives and Rebates
The nutmeg state has some of the best solar incentives and state-funded programs around.
30% Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC)
You can claim a tax credit for 30% of the total cost of your solar system. While this credit can be used to reduce the cost of owning solar panels, it is also making the cost of leasing solar panels more affordable by reducing the monthly rate.
It’s important to note that you must have enough tax liability to claim the full 30% tax credit with ownership. If you don’t qualify, we can help you explore other options to maximize your savings.
Property Tax Exemption for Renewable Energy Systems
Solar panel systems are exempt from any additional property taxes on the added home value from a solar installation.
Sales and Use Tax Exemption for PV and Geothermal Systems
Homeowners in Connecticut are not required to pay the standard 6.35% state sales tax for their solar panel system.
Connecticut Green Bank Residential Solar Investment Program (RSIP)
This program provides incentives and rebates to qualified Connecticut residents that can help reduce the cost of installing solar panels.
Connecticut Green Bank Solar for All Program
Connecticut residents can now access affordable solar energy through a new program offered by the state’s Green Bank. With the Solar for All program, low and moderate-income households can receive financial assistance for installing solar panels.
Connecticut Net Energy Metering
Connecticut residents earn a utility credit for any solar energy that they overproduce. This credit can then be used to power your home at night and on cloudy days.
While this is available in a lot of states, Connecticut goes above and beyond. With Connecticut Net Energy Metering, you earn an additional $.03 credit for any energy you overproduce.
This means if you use the average 10,000 KWh per year, you’ll earn a hefty $300 credit.
Distributed Generation Program: Buy-All, Sell-All
As an alternative to Net Energy Metering, residential solar customers in Connecticut have the option to sell all of the solar power they generate back to the utility company at a fixed rate over a 20-year term.
This buy-all rate will likely be higher than the current utility rate, which means immediate savings. However, you wouldn’t be actually using the solar power. So you aren’t able to add in a solar battery for back-up storage through this program.
How to Claim the CT Solar Energy Incentives
We take care of everything aside from filing your taxes for you next year. While you should certainly consult a tax professional, we always make sure our customers are taking full advantage of any federal and state solar incentives. This includes providing alternative options such as leasing or power purchase agreements in the event that you don’t qualify for the incentives.

Steven Is. SaldarriagaNovember 15, 2024Very helpful Cameron was there to answer all my questions my system is not working yet but I'm happy with all the work is done so farDavid FedericoNovember 15, 2024Evergreen and its staff were true professionals throughout the whole process. I met with 6 different solar companies. Evergreen was the first I sat down with and the leader throughout the entire process. I knew nothing about solar prior to meeting with them, and after our 45 minute meeting I was thoroughly informed about all aspects, details, numbers, and the expected timeline. No pushy sales tactics, and the numbers they initially shared with me were the best out of the six companies I interviewed. The project manager and installation company updated us every step of the way, and were a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Evergreen.Teddy PanoutsakopoulosNovember 15, 2024Great Company hands down! Can you get free solar panels in Connecticut?
While you can’t technically get “free” solar panels anywhere, they are “free” in the sense that you can expect to pay less for solar than you already do for electricity — and it costs nothing to make the switch.
So you’re swapping out an unpredictable and constantly increasing electric bill for a price protected solar payment that is usually about 40% lower. While it isn’t exactly “free”, it’s about as close as it gets.
